3M Scotch 5451 and 5453 - Glass cloth adhesive coated in PTFE

Description

3M 5451 and 5453 are single sided non-slip adhesive tapes with backing material of glass cloth impregnated by PTFE (Polytetrafluorethylene) from the scotch tape range of the manufacturer 3M.

These adhesive tapes are recommended for all thermo welding applications that require :

• high temperature resistance : the silicone adhesive allows it to resist temperatures up to 205°C continuously, 260°C peak temperature. However, using it at much higher temperatures could lead to a release of toxic fumes hence the need for good ventilation.
   
• non-slip properties : the plastic film welded by the heated blade that is protected by the Teflon glass cloth adhesive should be able to slip and slide.
   
• high mechanical resistance : this is reinforced by the glass cloth, which, as a reminder, is 7 times as resistant as polyester with the same thickness. It provides more resistance to abrasion than the non-slip 3M 5490 Teflon tape that is not reinforced with glass cloth. This is a benefit for optimisation of long-term use. For applications that require a thicker tape than the glass cloth tape, use 3M 5453 tape, which has an overall thickness of 0.21 mm.

Other applications where reinforced glass cloth tape impregnated with PTFE can be used are :

• in metallurgy : protection on metal parts during treatment by flame projection or powder coating projection.
   
• for printing, coating cylinders or ink tanks.
   
• in the mechanical industry or the food industry, equipment for heating blades, cuts for packaging and heat-sealing machines, ironing and pressing.
