3M 5490, 5491 PTFE Non-stick Teflon adhesive scotch tape

Description

3M 5490 and 5491 tapes are single sided non-stick adhesive tapes with extruded Teflon (Polytetrafluorethylene PTFE) backing material which belong to the scotch tape range of the manufacturer 3M.

The 3M 5490 adhesive tape is primarily known for its non-stick characteristics due to its extruded TEFLON PTFE backing material, coupled with its resistance to high temperatures thanks to its silicone adhesive.

Here are its main features : 

• It provides a slick surface in all types of applications where the temperature is high (up to 205°C continuously).
• It also ensures the protection and airtightness of surfaces
• It represents a chemical barrier in harsh and hostile environments (resistance against acid and solvents excluding organic solvents)
• It significantly increases material lifetime  by reducing noise and vibrations.

Please note that at very high temperatures PTFE can release toxic fumes and should be used in ventilated spaces.

3M 5491 tape presents the same characteristics as the 3M 5490 but because of its greater thickness, its resilience to abrasion and friction is better, as is its lifetime.

Here are possible applications for the 3M 5490 and 5491 Teflon tapes :

• They facilitate the cleaning of the surfaces during the extrusion of hot plastic by preventing the accumulation of plastic material on the rolls.
• They are used as non-stick surfacing for viscous, sticky and smearing products.
• They are optimal for surfacing guide ramps, discharge spouts, drums or hoppers.
