Born2Bond LC2100 for UV bonding of glass and polycarbonate
Bostik’s Born2Bond LC2100 is a high performance one-component acrylic UV adhesive, designed for the demanding bonding of glass and polycarbonate.
Where a general purpose UV adhesive reaches its limits on PC, the LC2100 delivers high adhesion and superior mechanical and thermal strength. Adezif is a distributor of Bostik / Born2Bond adhesives.
The LC2100 cures on demand under UV light from 365 to 405 nm, with a one second fixture time under a 405 nm LED: it is the reference of the range for high throughput and in-line assembly. The operator positions the part, then triggers a near-instant set, with no clamping and no drying time.
Its strengths:
- Ultra-fast set: fixture in 1 second under a 405 nm LED
- High Tg of around 90 °C and service range from −40 to +140 °C
- High mechanical strength: 27 MPa tensile at break, 23 MPa shear on glass and 14 MPa on PC
- Excellent adhesion to polycarbonate and glass
- Clear, impact resistant, with gap filling properties
Before application, the surface must be clean, dry and degreased.
What are the applications of the Born2Bond LC2100?
Polycarbonate bonding
With 14 MPa shear on PC, the LC2100 handles a substrate that standard UV acrylics hold only poorly. This is the application that sets it apart most clearly from the rest of the Born2Bond range.
Clear assemblies exposed to heat
Its glass transition temperature of around 90 °C and its service range from −40 to +140 °C cover clear bonds exposed to high temperatures, in lighting, in instrumentation or inside vehicle cabins.
Structural bonding of glass
Its 27 MPa tensile strength at break and its 23 MPa shear on glass make it a solution for glass assemblies that are truly under load, while keeping its impact resistance and its gap filling properties.
Applying the Born2Bond LC2100 UV adhesive
Apply the LC2100 with a dispenser or a syringe (its viscosity of 100,000 to 140,000 cP suits controlled deposits and vertical surfaces), assemble, then expose under a 405 nm UV lamp or LED for curing in one second. Check that the light reaches the joint: at least one substrate must be transparent to UV.
