3M 420 Single sided lead foil tape

Description

3M 420 tape is a single sided adhesive tape with lead backing material from the scotch tape range of the manufacturer 3M.

Its rubber adhesive offers excellent conformability in a number of applications, both outdoor and indoor. It is a tape with a translucent paper liner, which makes it easy to use.

This tape is the ideal choice for electrolytic processing applications (such as electroplating) that require a good resistance to chemical products and allow for high quality work thanks to its faculty to be a “current thief”.

Compared with 3M 425 aluminium tape commonly used in electroplating baths, 3M 420 lead foil tape is the only one that can withstand an acid bath as a finishing bath or for sealing. Moreover, this tape does not contaminate the various baths.

The lead tape is used as a barrier in many metal coating operations :

• cadmium plating
• galvanising
• copper plating
• brass plating
• nickel plating
• chrome plating.

The demarcation of the barrier is clear, without the formation of ridges, and the coating is uniform over the entire substrate.

It can also be used :

• as ballast in some equipment, such as golf clubs or tennis rackets.
• In the engraving field (to put around a frame and give it a neat finish) and stained glass (lead tape to bond on smooth surfaces such as glass, Plexiglas or ceramic and which allows you to make regular lead cames, imitating stained glass windows without having to cut the glass, and giving relief).
