Pliogrip 3540 - Two-part PU adhesive outside the diisocyanate restriction
Bostik Pliogrip 3540 is a next-generation two-part polyurethane adhesive that is MDI-free: it contains no aromatic diisocyanate and stays below the 0.1 % monomeric diisocyanate threshold.
It therefore falls outside the European diisocyanate restriction and requires none of the mandatory training in force since 2023 — a real gain in shop-floor organisation.
Adezif is a distributor of Bostik / Born2Bond adhesives.
Pliogrip 3540 is a 1:1 two-part polyurethane adhesive, grey, curing at room temperature. Its strengths:
- MDI-free below 0.1 % diisocyanate: no CMR labelling, no mandatory training
- Flexible and toughened: 50 to 60 % elongation, good impact recovery
- Breaking strength of 18 to 20 MPa
- Service temperature from −40 to +100 °C
- Sandable and paintable, compatible with short-cycle 170 °C powder coating
- Gap filling of several millimetres
Careful surface preparation is still recommended for optimum adhesion.
What are the applications of Bostik Pliogrip 3540?
Bonding thermoplastics in plastics processing
The 3540 stands out for high specific adhesion to thermoplastics, where conventional adhesives call for heavy preparation or an activating primer. It also covers thermoset composites and glass, which makes it a versatile reference for workshops running several material families.
Assembling painted and coated metals
It bonds painted or coated metals without primer and withstands powder coating at 170 °C over short cycles. Parts can therefore be finished after bonding, with no need to rework the assembly or mask the joint.
Bonding sealing and repair in a single reference
Flexible and toughened, the 3540 bonds, seals and repairs with one product. It fills gaps of several millimetres, sands and paints once cured, and its flexible formulation absorbs differential expansion between materials.
Open times and application of the Pliogrip 3540
The 3540 comes in several reactivities, from 30 seconds to 45 minutes of open time, covering both quick repairs and large-area bonding.
It is dispensed from a side-by-side cartridge with an application gun and a static mixing nozzle that handles the 1:1 ratio, the mix and the extrusion in one pass.
Assemble before the end of the open time of the grade chosen, then let it cure at room temperature.
